Reading the Love Letter, new work by Rebecca Carter at The Reading Room, opens this Saturday, November 5 from 7 to 9 pm, 3715 Parry Avenue. And if you happen to be an early bird type, drop in around 5:30. The show will continue through November 26.

Carter’s work investigates human gesture in its myriad forms through drawing, video and sculpture. Humor and intellect are entwined and the familiar is often embedded with unexpected jolts. The Love Letter is an ongoing project which originated with a personal letter from an older relative. Carter has deconstructed/abstracted it for its linguistic, psychological, familial, historical, and aesthetic properties.

Carter’s MFA is in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Her work has been exhibited at 500X Gallery where she was a member and Road Agent Gallery, 2006 New American Talent and 2011 Texas Biennial at Arthouse at the Jones Center in Austin, Corcoran Museum in Washington, D.C., The Sky Dive in Houston, artsReligare in New Delhi and the Cheongju Craft Biennale in Korea.
